The funeral for Henry Lloyd Mitchell Jr., 62, of Enid will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Ronnie Jacobs will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Russworm Funeral Home, Enid.
He was born Feb. 11, 1943, at Enid to Rev. Henry L. Sr. and Stella Mitchell and died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005, at Intergis Baptist Medical Center, Oklahoma City.
He attended Booker T. Washington and Enid High School and was placekicker for the Enid Plainsmen football team.
He married Catalina Stone April 29, 1978, in Enid.
He served as choir director for the Mass Choir, Enid. He was a member of Grayson Missionary Baptist Church and later became one of the founders and a charter member of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as choir director, deacon and organist. He was a member of the board of trustees, president of the Brotherhood, treasurer of the finance department and on the deacon board at the church.
He worked at Vance Air Force Base October 1965 to 1994. He began work at Northrop Aircraft Services in 1996 until he started work for the state Department of Corrections as food service manager. He served on the YMCA board in 1998. He was on the board of directors for Booker T. Washington Community Center, and board of education for Carver school 1975 to 1981.
He also owned and operated Mr. Big Stuff Hit Record Shop 1979 to 1981. He officiated softball and volleyball. He was a member and officer of the NAACP, YMCA and treasurer and member of Super Bowl Brothers.
Surviving are his wife, Catalina of the home; one son Larry Ernesto Stone of Enid; one daughter Ana Marie Stone of Edmond; one sister, Doris Mitchell of Waco, Texas; two brothers, Elmer Mitchell of Waco and John Mitchell of Mesquite, Texas.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
