Memorial service for Dale R. Miller, 88, of Enid, Okla., will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, at First United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Randy Mitchell and Susan Southall officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Cremation arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory.

Dale was born April 21, 1926, on a farm west of Enid, Okla., to Lewis and Retta Barge Miller and died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, in Enid. He attended Freehome School for eight years and graduated from Enid High School in 1944. Dale served in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1945-1946, serving in the Philippines and Japan. He joined First United Methodist Church at the age of 12 and continued to be active thoughout his life. He served as president of the Administration Counsel, Chairman of Trustees and Chaired the committee that selected the pipe organ.

On Aug. 25, 1949, Dale married Mary Elizabeth Johnson at the Methodist Church in Konawa, Okla.

He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in agriculture economics in 1951.

Dale and Elizabeth returned to Enid to farm the land of his grandfather, Chris Miller, and continued to farm that land for 54 years. They had three children, Larry, Retta and Pam. The three children attended Freehome School and Enid High School. The church and his family were the most important things in his life. In addition, Dale served as a 4-H adult leader and president of the 4-H leaders counsel. He served on the IMO Coop Board and Union Equity regional board for 25 years. Dale was a member of the Enid Briggs Lion Club for 41 years. He served 31 years on the Oklahoma Wheat Research Foundation, and 13 years on the Federal Land Bank Association Board. Dale received the Oklahoma State University Agriculture Economics Association Distinguished Alumnus Award and was honored as Outstanding Farmer in Garfield County. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of the home; three children, Larry and Paula Miller of Enid, Retta Miller of Dallas, and Pam Ardern of Clemson, S.C.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lester Miller of Kansas and Glen Miller of Enid; two sisters, Bonnie Miller of Oklahoma City and Betty Krause of Houston, Texas; other relatives and friends.
