A Celebration of Life Service for Bruce Melton will be 10 am Tuesday at Graceway Baptist Church, 2918 W. Randolph Enid, OK 73703. Burial was in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Bruce was born the first of three sons to Clyde and Orpah Melton on July 13, 1936, in Mangum, Oklahoma. When he was seventeen, he entered full-time ministry - first as a music minister and then as a pastor. He graduated from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, and later earned doctorates from Louisiana Baptist Theological Seminary and Liberty University. Over his lifetime, he was also instrumental in founding Baptist Bible College West in California, and he taught ministerial courses and music both there and at Baptist Bible College. After retiring from his final pastorate of 28 years at Central Baptist Church in Huntington Beach, he and his wife moved to Enid, where they were members of Graceway Baptist Church.
He is survived by Nelda, his wife of 59 years; his brother, Van; his daughters and sons-in-law, Julie, Jennie and Kevin Strope, Joy and Darrell Venham, and Mandie and Craig Bruyn; and his four grandchildren Lauren, Kyle, Molly, and Gray.
One grandson, Aaron, preceded him in death.
Memorials may be made to Graceway Baptist Church or Gideons International with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
