Services for Groendyke Executive set Saturday

Funeral services for Robert McKennon, 62, 1706 E. Maple, vice-president and secretary of the Groendyke Transport Inc., will be at 2 PM Saturday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Rev. A. Meitler will officiate and burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau – Evans Funeral Home.

McKennon was born July 31, 1908, in Clarksville, Arkansas, and came to Enid in 1951. A Veteran of World War I I, he was involved in government work before joining the Groendyke organization. He married Anita Mathis in 1953, and she died in 1956. In 1958 he married Anne Westphal.

He was a member of the Associated Motor Carriers of Oklahoma and was to be the incoming president. Other memberships included the Texas Tank Truck Carriers and the Kansas Motor Carriers Association.

Survivors include his wife Anne of the home, one daughter, Mary Anne McKennon, Southboro, Massachusetts, three step daughters, Mrs. W. R. Bohon, Bartlesville; Mrs. M. K. Todd, Tulsa and Mrs. Tom Claiborne, Redondo Beach, California; two brothers, C. H. McKennon, Port Neches, Texas, and Albert, Newark, Delaware.

All members of the Groendyke firm and the state organization will sit as a group at the Saturday services.

A memorial has been established in McKennon's name with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, heart division with Ladusau – Evans as custodians.

ENID — Mrs. Robert McKennon (Anne Westphal), daughter of the late Richard and Margarete (Minzlaff) Westphal, was born September 12, 1913, on a farm west of Enid and died September 16, 2010, in Wichita, Kansas. She attended rural grade school and Lahoma High School, graduating at the age of 16. She also graduated from St. John's Lutheran College in Winfield, Kansas, majoring in business.

Anne started her career working for Farmers Co-Op Elevator Supply Company in Newkirk , Oklahoma, then continued working in Oklahoma City and Enid in various business offices, spending more than 40 years working for the public. In December 1954, she opened Garfield Loan Company in the Broadway Tower. She was the first woman in Oklahoma to be issued a small loan license. It was a successful venture.

She married Robert McKennon on February 28, 1958.

She was always active in church work and as a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Like her mother, she depended on God's guidance throughout her life. She was also very active in civic circles during her working years. After retiring, Anne traveled extensively.

Her husband, father, mother, sister Gertrude (Mrs. Loyd Hamil), sister-in-law, Ruby Westphal, and three brothers preceded her in death.

Anne leaves nieces, nephews, cousins, and stepchildren, and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 20, 2010, in Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Kenneth Wade officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery .

Memorials can be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the funeral home acting as custodian of the fund.
