Funeral service for Phil McCrate, 87, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015, at Enid First Assembly of God Church, with Pastor Dan Barrick and grandson, the Rev. Bryan Thiessen officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Visitation with family will be 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday evening, May 13, at the funeral home.
Phil was born to William and Mary (Taber) McCrate on June 7, 1927, in Shattuck, Okla., and passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015, in Oklahoma City.
Phil grew up in Pampa and graduated from high school there.
Phil served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On June 12, 1949, he married Johnnie Mae Young in Pampa, where they made their home.
Phil worked for Shell Oil Company and was transferred to Elk City, Glendive, Mont., and then Seiling, where he retired.
Phil and Johnnie moved to Enid in 1995.
Phil was an active member of Elk City Assembly of God Church and then later Enid First Assembly, serving as both deacon and secretary-treasurer.
Phil and Johnnie were volunteers with MAPS, which is a volunteer team of RV’ers, working all over the country building churches and assisting with other building projects. Phil was an excellent woodcarver, making many beautiful wood pieces for friends and family.
Phil is survived by his wife, Johnnie; two sons, Mike and Wanda McCrate of Claremore, and Jim and wife Sharon McCrate of Yukon; with grandchildren, Alicia, Tim, Amy, Travis, Jeremy, Jacklyn, Josh and Bryan; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Thiessen, and sisters Mildred Mason and Betty Collie.
Memorials may be made to Anderson-Burris Funeral Home for Missions in Haiti.
