ENID — Funeral service for Rudolph "Rudy" Amel Martin, 88, will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2011, at Anderson - Burris Funeral Home with Gordon Jantz officiating. Visitation with family will be 2-3 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Rudy was born to John and Lessie (Runkle) Martin on Dec. 2, 1922, in Depew, Okla., and died Thursday, June 2, 2011, in Enid.

He graduated from Three Sands High School and entered the Army Air Force in 1942. He was a waist gunner and radio operator on B-24s. Rudy was a P.O.W. for eleven months. He then was stationed at Enid Army Air Force Base until his honorable discharge on Oct. 21, 1945. He played in the Air Force Band.

Rudolph married Trena Marie Vasquez on Oct. 29, 1945, in Arkansas City, Kan. They resided in several states before returning to Enid in 1965. He worked at Vance AFB and then retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

Rudolph was a professional musician and played with Bob Wills, Patsy Cline, Ray Price, Elvis Presley, and Jimmy Dean. His band recorded for Dot Records and he was inducted into the Western Swing Hall of Fame in 1995.

Rudolph came to Christ in 1993 and was a member of North Garland Church of Christ. He was also a member of D.A.V. and Ex-POW's.

Rudy is survived by his wife, Trena; daughter, Teresa Baker and husband Bill of Enid; four grandchildren, Tera Couchman (Kris), John Bryant, Jenny Martin (Ryan) and Andrea Ondracek (Curt), all of Enid; and four great-grandchildren, Maysie and Kade Couchman, Caleb Ondracek and Kennedy Martin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
