Mrs. Virgil (Doris May) Mahaffey, 57, Route 5, died Monday, September 6, 1971, in a local nursing home following a period of ill health.
Her funeral service will be at 4 PM Wednesday in the Chapel of the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home with the Rev. Lloyd Lambert and the Rev. Raymond Horner officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Those who wish may make contributions in memory of Mrs. Mahaffey to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Cancer Division. The funeral home will serve as custodian of the fund.
Mrs. Mahaffey was born May 28, 1914, near Enid. She attended the Enid schools and received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Phillips University. She taught at Jefferson, where she and Virgil Mahaffey were married August 22, 1937, moving to Enid the following year. She taught at Longfellow junior high for 20.5 years, until ill health forced her to retire 18 months ago.
Mrs. Mahaffey was a member of the Central Christian Church, the Beta Sigma Phi and Kappa Kappa Iota. She was also a lifetime member of the National Education Association and the Oklahoma Education Association and was a past President of the Enid Education Association.
Survivors include her husband Virgil of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Sue Ellen) Tanner, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois; a granddaughter Tracie; a brother, Lee Marshall of Enid, and aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hare, Enid.
