Madge was born March 18, 1921 in Waldron, Arkansas to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Noble Crow. She was their only child. They moved to Coffeyville, Kansas when she was a young girl, where Mr. Crow, a pharmacist, opened Crow Drug Store. Madge had many fond memories of making sundaes and mixing sodas at the soda fountain and watching her Dad mortal and pestle prescriptions. She flourished in Coffeyville and was a leader in her school. She loved her memories of being Basketball Queen and starring on the girl’s tennis team.
After high school she attended Mary-Hardin Simmons Girls School in Belton, Texas as a freshman before transferring to Oklahoma University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and graduated with honors. She also met her future husband, C.E. (Bud) Loomis, Jr. at O.U. Madge and Bud were married on May 30, 1942 in Coffeyville, KS and remained married for 68 years before her beloved Bud passed away in July 2010.
Madge loved Enid and her high energy was always welcomed as she became deeply involved in her community, helping and volunteering in many school and church activities, eagerly offering her time and service to help others. She was a member of the Central Christian Church Sooner Sunday School Class for over 50 years. She was also the longest living past President of the Enid Jr. Welfare League at the time of her death. Madge was a member of and Past President of PEO Chapter Q for over 60 years.
She was quite an athlete and taught her children to play golf, tennis, swim, dive, and ski. Always leading the way and teaching the value in teamwork and the responsibility of leadership.
After raising her children and volunteering in her community she decided to become a real estate agent at the age of 65. She began her new career with the Garner Agency and then moved to Coldwell-Banker, where she worked for many years. She was working every day selling houses until she was 88 years old and only stopped working to take care of her ailing husband. Madge was once named realtor of the year in Enid and always took great pride in giving her clients extra special care.
Madge loved the Colorado Mountains and spent time there each year, skiing in the winter and picnicing, hiking, and relaxing in the summer. She especially loved to gather her family together there as the family grew. She also loved to have friends and family join in on the many picnics she hosted at the “farm” west of Enid, where all would gather and enjoy evenings around the fire. Madge was an avid OU fan who rarely missed a football game. She also loved to watch the Enid Plainsmen where her enthusiastic cheering was legendary.
Madge was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Verna Crow, and her husband C.E. (Bud) Loomis Jr.
She is survived by her three children, Nan Loomis Miller and her husband, Ken of Oklahoma City; Kim Loomis Irwin and her husband, Dean of Houston, Texas; Court Loomis, III and his wife, Klista of Trophy Club, TX. She is also the proud Mimi to her four grandchildren, Tracy Butts, Chip Bruce, Chance Irwin, and Court (Ceth) Loomis IV, and her six great-grandchildren, Nathan and Nichols Butts, Brett and Michelle Bruce, and Addie Scott and Bebe Irwin as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Madge’s children would like to thank the many wonderful people who helped care for her in her final days. A special thanks to Jo George and the caring staff at Greenbrier Skilled Nursing.
It was indeed a joy and blessing to know Madge Loomis. She will be missed immeasurably by all that knew her.
Memorials may be made through Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home to her life-long church, Central Christian Church.
