Enid, Oklahoma July 10, 2003 March 10, 1918 ~ July 6, 2003 LeRoy Camden Link, the eldest child of Roy S. and Edith [Bowers] Link, was born March 10, 1918 in Forrestville, Virginia. He graduated from Covington High School in Covington, Oklahoma in 1937 and on November 19, 1938 he was united in marriage with Florence Aline Surrett in Fairview, Oklahoma. After graduation, LeRoy moved to Washington, DC and was employed by the Hot Shops for three years. He then moved east of Fayetteville, Arkansas, where he farmed until joining the US Navy and serving in the Philippines during World War II. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. After he was discharged, he worked at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma and in 1960 moved to Wichita Falls, Texas to work at Sheppard Air Force Base. He retired after 30 years of Federal Service and became the building superintendent for the First National Bank Building in Wichita Falls for another nine years. LeRoy loved sports. He played baseball, golf and horseshoes and fished and hunted with family and friends. He was a pitcher for the Frisco Railroad softball team and played in the VAFB Golf Tournament in Enid. LeRoy also loved to bowl. One of his greatest joys was his induction into the Wichita Falls Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1964. He was also a longtime member of the BPO Elks USA Lodge #1105 in Wichita Falls. Survived by his wife of 64 years, Florence Aline Link; Daughter; Son and Daughter-In-Law; three grandchildren; great granddaughter, two Sisters; Brother-In-Law; Brother; two sisters-In-Law; and Daughter-In-Law and caregiver. He was preceded in death by his Parents, his Brother James and Brother-In-Law John Wyssmann. Graveside Services: 11:00 AM Thursday, July 10, 2003 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Enid, Oklahoma. Link, 91, will be 11 am Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev Don Tines will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Florence was born September 12, 1917, in Dewey, OK to Charles A. and Nellie Steele Surrett and died Saturday, December 13, 2008, in Hot Springs, AR. She was raised in the Garber/Covington area. She graduated from Garber High School and from Enid Business College in 1938. She married LeRoy Link November 19, 1938, in Fairview, OK. He preceded her in death July 6, 2003. She moved to Wichita Falls, TX, in 1960. She worked as an Assistant County Auditor for Wichita Falls County, TX and then retired. After retirement she started a Ceramic Shop and taught art work. She is survived by one daughter, Gerri Erwin and Dale Key of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; one son, Terry (Butch) Link of Wichita Falls, Texas; three grandchildren, Bret Perrin, Stephanie McCoy and her husband Jon Charles Link; two great-grandchildren, Brittany and Carson and her caregiver, Sherry Link, of Wichita Falls, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LeRoy; and one brother, Garland. |
