© Anderson~Burris Funeral Home Enid, Oklahoma April 2008 February 3, 194l ~ April 25, 2008 The funeral service for Donald Joe Laster, age 67, will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 3, 2008, at the First Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Alfred Baldwin, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. He was born to Johnnie and Herbaline [Brakebill] Laster on February 3, 194l in Oklahoma City, and died Friday, April 25, 2008, at Integris Bass Baptist Medical Center in Enid. Donald grew up in Enid, and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. On June 20, 1961, he married Mary Brown in Enid. He served in the United States Navy, and retired with over twenty years of service. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to Enid, where he worked with his father at Laster & Son Tree Service. He was also a school bus driver for over twenty years. He served on the Enid Metro Housing Council and on the board of directors at Booker T. Washington. He was the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the Chairman of the housing committee of the Southern Heights Community Organization, and he was a Mason. Donald was an active member of First Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a head deacon, Sunday School teacher, and pianist. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and attending sporting events. He is survived by his wife Mary, of the home; two daughters, Barbara Laster of Enid and Carla Williams of Los Angeles, California, and; one son, Richard Laster of Trier, Germany; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Porter and Herbaline Bastas, both of Enid, and Muriel Allen of Albuquerque, New Mexico; brothers and sisters in Christ, Roma and Hope Smith of Kansas City, Missouri, and James and Leola Hunter; and many nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by his parents Johnnie and Herbaline Laster; two brothers, James Laster and Michael Hegwood; and one sister Johnetta Fitzpatrick. |
© Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma Friday, July 15, 2016 Page A5 November 28, 1939 ~ July 11, 2016 Mary Kathrine was born November 28, 1939, to Andrew and Emma Lee Brown in Enid, and passed away Monday, July 11, 2016, at her home in Enid. Her home-going celebration service is 1 pm Monday, July 18, 2016, at First Missionary Baptist Church. Burial is in Memorial Park Cemetery, with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Mary grew up in Enid and attended Enid Public Schools. At a very early age, she accepted Christ. Mary married her high school sweetheart, Donald Laster, and to this union they adopted two children. After Donald retired from the military, they moved back to Enid, and Mary worked in the Enid Public School System as a paraprofessional, from which she retired. For a time, Mary was a member of the Eastern Star and Masonic Lodge. She was a very active member of First Missionary Baptist Church, where in early years, she was a Sunday School Teacher, choir member, treasurer for the WMU, church secretary, Deaconess, and a mother of the church. She leaves to celebrate her home-going, one daughter, Barbara Fleece [Mike] of Enid; one son, Richard Laster [Natalia] of Trier, Germany; two nephews, Orlando Brown [Sherlene]. of Oklahoma City; and Dwayne Brown, of Enid; sister-in-law, Mary Porter, of Enid; brother-in-law, Tommy Fitzpatrick, of Enid; aunt, Mary Freeman, of DeSota, Texas; five grandsons; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her husband; father; mother; stepmother; two sisters; and one brother. |
