Eugene "Gene" Darnell, 88, of Arlington, TX, formerly of Enid, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2022. Services are pending with Ladusau-Evans.

A graveside service for Gene Darnell, age 87, will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Harrell Davis will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Gene was born July 4th, 1934, in Enid, OK, to Mark Lively and Mary Sophia Darnell and died Saturday, June 4th, 2022, in Arlington, TX.
On Dec 27th, 1959, he married Elda Jeanette Knopfel in Covington, OK.
After an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, where he worked as a mechanic, he worked for Hurst Motors in Enid. He later worked for Dean Pearson Dodge in Enid for several years and then finished out his career with Central Oklahoma Freight Lines as a diesel mechanic. During all this time he was actively involved with different race cars at Enid Speedway.
He is survived by his daughter, Jeannie Kay Jackson and husband Larry of Arlington, TX: sister, Betty Ferrell of N.C.: four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many others who considered him family.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elda, his parents Mark and Mary and 2 brothers, Jack and Melvin.
