Last rites for Alvin Cox, 73, will be at the graveside in Memorial Park at 11 AM Wednesday with the Rev. John Matthieson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Fossett Funeral Home. The casket will not be opened before nor after the service.
Cox died Monday morning in a local hospital after a period of ill health. He was born in Belle Plaine, Iowa, April 18, 1907, at the age of three moved with his parents to Los Angeles, California.
Cox lived there until his retirement in 1971, when he and his wife began traveling. They had made Enid their permanent address. He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Cox and Mary Wray were married December 25, 1945, in Enid. In addition to his wife Mary, of the home at 431 S. Pierce, Cox is survived by a son and three daughters, Alvin Lyle Cox Jr., San Francisco, California, Barbara Bayer, York, Pennsylvania, Carolyn McLean, Olympia, Washington, and Donna Boyd, Waterloo, Iowa; a sister, Gladys DeCou of Los Angeles and 14 grandchildren.
