ENID, Okla. - Dr. Theron A. Chick, 77, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, August 19, 2013.
He was born August 11, 1936, at the General Hospital in Enid.
He attended school in Enid and graduated from Alva High School. He graduated from Northwestern State College in Alva and also had a Doctorate of Divinity from Mid-America Bible Baptist College.
He married his high-school sweetheart, JoAnn Cox, on August 25, 1956. They celebrated 57 wonderful years together.
Dr. Chick loved his family. He loved and enjoyed his sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved having family gatherings. One of his favorite holidays was Christmas! He enjoyed traveling abroad. One of his favorite places to vacation was Hawaii. He also enjoyed traveling in his motor home and visiting with his friends around the country.
He accepted Christ as his personal Saviour at the age of 9, and was called to preach at an early age. He said accepting Christ changed his life. He became an ordained minister on January 26, 1962. Dr. T.A. Chick was a pastor for over 50 years. He was a faithful and loving pastor at the Bible Baptist Church of Enid for 48 1/2 years. As a pastor, his heart and soul were given to the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ. His ministry was not his, but the Lord?s. He always exalted the Lord Jesus Christ in his life and ministry. He was unwavering in his service and was faithful to the Word of God.
Dr. Chick always proclaimed the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, declaring the freedom that comes through Blood Redemption His life glorified the Lord. He loved his church family, and loved missions and missionary families around the world.
Dr. Chick had great leadership ability and his mind was sharp with Bible knowledge. Countless souls have come to know Jesus Christ through his ministry. He had a love for everyone, even if it had to be a tough love with righteousness and instruction. Continually without anyone knowing, he would help others in need. Wherever he was, he would stop and listen to their needs and have prayer with them. He never met a stranger. Dr. Chick?s life touched many people, and he will be greatly missed.
Dr. Chick is survived by his wife, JoAnn, of the home; two sons, Terry Alan Chick and wife Sheryl, and Theron Randall "Randy" Chick; four grandchildren, Travis and wife Alicia Chick, Korey Chick, Joshua Chick and Lacey Whipple, and Alexandria Chick; three great-grandchildren, Theron, Rilyn and Aria Chick; three sisters, Sandra Doman and Judy Stewart, both of Alva, and Lucinda Miller of Henderson, Nevada.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. and Mrs. T.A. Chick; brother Rev. John Chick and three sisters, Patty Koehn, Cynthia Jones and Barbara Hurlbutt.
The funeral service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, August 22, 2013, at Bible Baptist Church. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery, with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.
