OBITUARY
Graveside services for Wayne E. Bentley were held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Enid with the Rev. Mike Jared officiating. Arrangements were by Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home of Enid. . Bentley, age 70, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 1995 in an Edmond hospital, following a period of ill health. Wayne loved his family and grandchildren and was a friend to everyone
He was born May 11, 1925 in Enid to Talmadge and Willie Oma (Smith) Bentley. Wayne was raised in Enid and attended Enid schools, graduating in 1942. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Navy. He participated in Operation Crossroads, ordered by the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to test the effect of the atomic bomb on naval vessels, and conducted at Bikini Atoll & Marshall Islands. He was known as "Porkie" to his shipmates. On Sept. 5, 1949, he married Clarice Paine. He was employed by Rock Island Railroad for many years, retiring as chief clerk. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, a member of Garfield Lodge 501, and a Past Worthy Patron of Eastern Star 447 Ruth Chapter. Survivors include his wife, Clarice of Edmond; a son, Terry of Edmond; a daughter, T. Diana Wall of Colorado Springs, Co.; & 3 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Theresa Miller.
