The funeral for Helen Unruh, 83, of Enid will be 10 a.m. Monday at Enid Mennonite Brethren Church. Garvie Schmidt, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mennonite Brethren Cemetery north of Enid. Arrangements are by Henninger-Allen Funeral Home.
She was born March 18, 1924, in Alfalfa County to John J. and Eva Buller Thomas and died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at her home.
She attended Riverside grade school before attending OBA High School in Meno. She attended Grace Bible College in Lincoln, Neb. She married Karl Unruh Aug. 17, 1947. They lived in Omaha, Neb. She worked at an egg factory and also made ice cream. They lived a short time in Ringwood and moved to Enid in 1949. She worked as a sales clerk at Woolworth in 1963 until it closed. She was a member of Mennonite Brethren Church and volunteered in the nursery.
Surviving are her husband, Karl, of the home; three daughters, Patricia Schroeder of Norman and Cynthia Unruh and Karol Anderson, both of Colorado; one son, Darrell Unruh of Enid; one sister, Louise Finke of Texas; one brother, Alvin Thomas of Miami; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, one brother and two granddaughters.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation — Alzheimer’s division.

Graveside services for Karl S. Unruh, 84-year-old Enid resident, will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, in Mennonite Brethren Cemetery, north of Enid. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at Enid Mennonite Brethren Church with Pastor Garvie Schmidt officiating. Services are under the direction of Henninger-Allen Funeral Home.
Karl was born on October 30, 1923, in Goessel, KS the son of Gerhard Unruh and Anna K. (Schmidt) Unruh and died Sun-day, Feb. 24, 2008, at his home. He grew up on a farm north of Goessel where he attended grade school and high school. Then he attended Taber Mennonite and accepted Christ as his personal savior.
In 1944 he was drafted and went into alternative service for two years. During this time he met his sweetheart Helen.
On August 17, 1947, he married Helen Thomas at West New Hopedale Mennonite Church. They made their first home in Omaha, Neb., after marriage, before returning to the Enid area in 1949. Karl worked for Long Bell and Cleveland Floors until going out on his own, which he did for at least 50 years.
He was a member of the Enid Mennonite Brethren Church where he served as an usher.
Karl enjoyed leather craft and wood working. He took pride in keeping his tools clean and sharp. As a father and a husband, Karl cared very much for the biblical values and made sure that the family loved and served the lord.
He is survived by three daughters, Patricia Schroeder and her husband Jim of Norman, Cynthia Unruh of Colorado, Karol Anderson and her husband Warren of Colorado, one son, Darrell Unruh and his wife Kathey of Enid; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Rubie Reimer; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Unruh; his parents; two sisters, Amanda Dirks and Erna Seeney; two granddaughters, Jessica Unruh and Joy Schroeder.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to Carter Health Care or the Enid Mennonite Brethren Church with Henninger-Allen Funeral Home acting as the custodian of the fund.
