James Michael (Jimmy) May, 54, died early Friday evening in a Hereford, Texas, hospital after becoming ill in Vega, Texas, where he was working at the time.
Born on a farm near Pioneer June 7, 1917, he was raised there and attended school at Pioneer. Following his schooling, he moved to Texas and married Fay Shipman at San Angelo, Texas. He worked as a roofer and the family had lived throughout most of the midwest United States as his work required. He had been working at Vega for the past two months.
May was a member of the Catholic Church.
His funeral services will be 2 PM Monday in the Chapel of the Henninger – Allen Funeral Home with Rev. Marvin F. Leven officiating. Burial will be in the Hackberry Valley Cemetery, Pioneer.
His survivors are one son, James Gordon, San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James E. May, Enid; three sisters, Pearley Martin and Mrs. Bill (Genevia) Maloney, both of Enid, and Mrs. George (Mary) Funk, Hereford; two brothers, Edward, Enid, and Willie, Staten Island, New York. He was preceded in death by one sister.
