Today we celebrate the life of Billy Don Sims, 70, of Enid.

Bill was born on January 12, 1950, in Pauls Valley to Kenneth Sims and his wife Bonnie Opal Pelfrey Sims. He attended school in Wakita and Medford before attending high school in Garber, where he graduated in May of 1968.

It was on February 16th of 1968 that Bill married his high school sweetheart Kathy Green. They were joined in Holy Matrimony at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Garber. They enjoyed 52 memorable years together, raising a son and daughter in a home filled with love and laughter.

In 1970 Bill became a full-time employee of Garber Cooperative Association and began a lifetime commitment (35 years) to the cooperative system. In 1977 Bill entered the Farmland Industries General Management Program at Park College in Kansas City. After completing the program, he worked as a CO-OP Manager in several Oklahoma towns. Bill served on the board of directors of the Oklahoma Grain and Feed Association for 12 years serving as president for two years. He was awarded Manager of the Year Award from Oklahoma State University in 1997. After his retirement in 2005, he established OK North Consulting and enjoyed his time working as an interim manager/consultant in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas.

Bill was an inquisitive man who loved to travel and explore and tinker with broken things. Handy with tools, he was a skilled woodworker and enjoyed tinkering with things. Later in life, he spent his time spoiling his five grandkids. He tried his best to make every game, concert, school function, and anything else the grandkids were involved in.

Bill was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for more than 45 years. During his time there he served as an Elder and President for several years and saw all five of his grandchildren baptized and confirmed there.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Kathy Sims of the home; son Billy Sims, II, and his wife Lori, of Garber; daughter Tiffany Plunkett and her husband Randy of Enid; grandchildren: Tyler Sims of Edmond, Parker Sims of Stillwater, Victoria Plunkett, Elizabeth Plunkett, and Kathryn Plunkett all of Enid; brother Kenneth Sims and his wife Carolyn of Louisville, Kentucky; sister Sue McLoud and her husband Dale of Holdenville; sister Janice Gibson and her husband Fred of Tulsa; sister-in-law Marsha Sims, Pueblo, Colorado; brother-in-law Douglas Green and his wife Mary of Carmen; sister-in-law Angela Amundson and her husband Troy of Garber; as well as many nieces and nephews and a large extended family.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jimmie Sims and brother Jerry Sims.

Friends and family were invited to pay their respects at the Dugger Funeral Home in Garber on Wednesday, April 15, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Funeral services will begin with a 10:45 procession from the Dugger Funeral Home at 401 Arapaho Street, by the Garber CO-OP, to the Garber Cemetery (N 3050 RD Northeast of town). Friends are invited to join in the procession to show support to the family in this difficult time. If you would like to join, please be in your car at the funeral home by 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2020. Family will follow the funeral cars, friends can fall in line behind the family.

Graveside services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2020, at the Garber Cemetery with pastor Mark Hein presiding. Dugger Funeral Home will provide a sound system to aide in hearing the service details from your cars.

Memorial donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Garber, or the charity of your choice.
