Funeral service for Eldon Showalter, 76-year-old Garber resident, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, at Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Scott Ray will officiate. Burial will follow in Garber Cemetery.

Eldon was born July 7, 1938, in Thomas, Okla., to Orvil and Lorene (Foust) Showalter and died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at his home in Garber.

He attended Garber schools and graduated with the class of 1956. He was the quarterback for Garber and played Enid in the first game ever played in D. Bruce Selby Stadium.

On Feb. 17, 1957, he married his high school sweetheart, Anita Diel. The couple made their home in Garber for 17 years.

Eldon was a manager for the co-op. They lived in Marshall for 15 years, and then Helena for another 15 years, before he retired after 47 years, and the couple returned to Garber.

He was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Garber. He was a volunteer firefighter for almost 25 years, a member of the Lion’s Club, and refereed football and basketball for many years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and kept an immaculate lawn.

He is survived by his wife, Anita of the home; two sons, Donnie Showalter and wife Charise of Guthrie and Doug Showalter and wife Tamara of Enid; five grandchildren, DuWayne Melton,

Courtney Fuksa, Heather Skinner, Tabitha Bloss and Jessica Showalter; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Velma Lee White and husband Arlen of Enid; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dale Showalter; niece, Denise Kelley; and nephew, Mike Kelley.

Memorials may be made through Henninger-Hinson to the charity of the donor’s choosing.
