The funeral service celebrating the life of Elton Ernest Wise, 81, is 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2016, in the Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel. Burial follows in the Enid Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

He was born in OklaUnion, Texas, on Feb. 10, 1935, to Charles Franklin and Gladys Wise, and passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016, at Golden Oaks Skilled Nursing in Enid Oklahoma. He married Margie Christeen Dalton, the love of his life, on Nov. 18, 1961, in Byers, Texas. They were married for 54 years and 9 months at the time of his passing. He dedicated his whole life to working in the oil field and worked for Champlin Petroleum, later known as Union Pacific Resources, until he retired in 1987.

He is survived by his wife, Margie C. Wise, of Enid; one son, Martin and wife, Brenda Wise, of Perry; three daughters, Melinda Davis, of Bowie, Texas; Sherry and husband, Kenny Cox, of Wichita Falls, Texas; and Dena Patterson, of Enid. Eight granddaughters, Brandi Beeby and husband, Clint, of Douglas; Jennifer Cox, of Wichita Falls, Texas; Kelli Patterson and fiancé, Jake Porter, of Enid; Brittany and husband, Robert Clauson, of Siloam Springs, Ark.; Ashlon Patterson, of Siloam Springs, Ark.; Rebecca Patterson, of Siloam Springs, Ark.; Tori Manning, Perry; and Tessa Thompson, Perry. Five grandsons, Bucky Wise, of Pennsylvania; Jeff Brown, of Bowie, Texas; Davey Hickman, of Bowie, Texas; Brandon and wife, Jessica Eckels, of Enid; Coby Wise, of Breckenridge, Colo.; Josh Thompson, of Oklahoma City; eighteen great-grandkids, Jazmine, Mackenzie, Sarah, Kelby, Timmy, Thomas, Nikoli, Jenna, Aspen, Brenley, April, Jazmine, Mackenzie, Waylon, Gracie, Jeremiah Jr, Joshlyn and Isabella. He has a brother, Charles and wife, Betty, of Bowie, Texas; a lot of nephews, nieces, and cousins, whom he cared for dearly.

Elton was preceded in death by his grandson, Dustin Cox, Sanger, Texas; parents, Frank and Gladys Wise, of Arizona and Texas; half-brother, A.D. Fellingham, of New Mexico; an uncle and aunt, who raised him, Robert Lee and Alzert Wise of Irving, Texas; and his first wife, Billy Wise, of Bowie, Texas.

Elton was an incredible man he never met a stranger. He has many adopted children and grandchildren who either called him Dad or Poppy. He had a smile that shined from the inside out. He was a bit ornery however; he would not have been Elton, Dad, Poppy or Uncle Elton if he were any other way. Many will miss Elton dearly however; we know he is fishing and rock hunting with Jesus!

Memorials are being accepted, through Brown-Cummings Funeral Home, to assist COPD patients in the Enid area, through the Enid Community Clinic.
