The funeral for Mr. Bill M. Washburn will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, at the Enid Cemetery, with the DAV Chaplin officiating. Service is under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral home.
Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army. Military escort will be provided by the Patriot Guard.
He was born to John and Daisy “Sands” Washburn March 1, 1930, in Cherokee, Okla.
He was raised and educated in Cherokee and attended Cherokee High School.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1947 and was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division.
In 1951, he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and made Enid his home.
He married Elsie Gunter and from this union came three children.
He worked as a machinist for Failing Co. for 15 years. He continued to work as a machinist for McDonald-Douglas and later Central Machine and Tool and Hackney.
He was a devoted member of the DAV.
He is survived by his son, Don Washburn of Enid; daughters, Terry Boling of Enid and Karen Washburn of Wichita, Kan.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and former wife.
Memorials may be made in his name to the DAV, with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodians of funds.
