Funeral services for Robert Eugene Sims, 71, Enid, will be held on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (419 N Eisenhower St., Enid, OK) with Bishop Redd officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Enid Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the United States Army. Arrangements are under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service and Cremation Directors.
Robert Eugene Sims, 71, died at Bass Integris hospital, in Enid, Oklahoma, on Monday, May 16, after a lengthy illness. Sims was born in Alva, OK, on July 4, 1944 and raised in Enid. He was drafted into the U.S. Army at the age of 21, and served as a Long-range Reconnaissance Patrols (LRRPs) operator in Vietnam. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Purple Heart for being wounded in combat, and the Bronze Star. After recovering from his injuries, he returned to Enid and worked for the U.S. Postal Service. He retired in 2010, after 32 years. Sims was a weapons expert, avid hunter, and fisherman who enjoyed annual camping treks to Colorado. He found great love and joy in his marriage to Mary Frances Bork in August 2000.He is remembered for his deep love of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Sims; mother, Sadie Sims; brother, Gary Sims. He is survived by his wife, Mary Sims; son, Scott Sims, daughter, Charleen Cooper (Patrick); step-children, Tevita Kaumavae (Marissa), Kimberly Peyok (David), Dean Kaumavae; brother, Jerry Sims (Shirley), sister, Joyce Hoeltzel (Mark); grandchildren, Darian, Eve, Scanlin, Lanie, Dryden, and Viliami.
