Graveside services for Avis Phares, 83, of Enid, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, in Enid Cemetery. Chaplain Walter Fitzsimons from The Commons Methodist Care Center will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
She was born to Benjamin and Fern Bryan Mayfield on Feb. 4, 1924, in Neodesha, KS. She passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, at The Commons. She went to school in Coffeyville, KS
She married LeRoy Phares Aug. 5, 1942, in Enid, OK. She was a homemaker and raised her children and also raised Darla and Tracey. LeRoy passed Nov. 21, 1975. Avis went to work at the Monroe Elementary in the cafeteria until she retired. She sewed homemade quilts and did ironing for lots of people.
Survivors include three daughters, Madonna McElfresh and her husband Anthony of Enid, Suzanna (Sue) Payne and her husband Ken of Enid, and Cecilia Marker of Edmond, OK; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, a son, a granddaughter, and two great-great-granddaughters.
