James Peters Sr. Dies

James M. Peters, well known to all the older residents of the city, died Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George N. Kneeland, at Enid, after a short illness brought on by old age.

Mr. Peters was born at Bardstown, Kentucky, July 28, 1838 and was but little less than 80 years of age when time for passing came. He served with distinction as a Confederate soldier during the Civil War and was regular in his attendance at the reunions held by his old comrades. He was united in marriage in Ray County, Missouri, 52 years ago to miss May Bowers and to this union four children were born. Mrs. Mattie Kneeland of Enid, Mrs. Allie McMehen of McAlester, Sam Peters of Ponca City and Charles B. Peters of this city, the mother having preceded him to the great beyond nearly 36 years ago. He also leaves a brother, Sam Peters, at Bardstown, Kentucky.

Mr. Peters was an early settler of Oklahoma having resided for some time at El Reno, but came to this city nearly 20 years ago to make his home with his son, C. B., who with his family were present at his death. Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church in Enid Monday and he was buried in the Enid Cemetery.
