Graveside services for Alton B. Parker, 81, of Enid, will be 2 p.m. today, May 12, 2009, in Enid Cemetery with Rev. Jim Chandler officiating. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the United States Army.
Mr. Parker was born Feb. 1, 1928, in Harman, Ark., the youngest of nine children of James and Nancy Stills Parker and died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Odyssey Hospice Home in Oklahoma City.
Mr. Parker served in the United States Army. He married Wanda Jean Chandler Aug. 5, 1948. She preceded him in death in 2004. He retired after 30 years of service from Southwestern Bell Telephone in 1980. Mr. Parker was a member of First Baptist Church of Arcadia.
Survivors include daughter, Sue and husband Curt Johnston of Enid and grandchildren, Brooke and Kevin Potter and two great-grandchildren; grandchildren, Jamie and Aric Coffman and two great-grandchildren of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandson, Barry and Nikki Johnston and three great-grandchildren of Enid. Son, Terry Parker and wife Susan of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Geoff and wife Kristi and two great-grandchildren of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Scott and Heather and six great-grandchildren of Edmond. Three sisters, Lily, Inez and Hazel, and one brother, Coleman.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Memorials may be made in Mr. Parker’s memory to Odyssey Hospice Home with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
