ENID, Okla. - Funeral for Gladys H. Newton, 65-year-old former Enid resident, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Westside Church of God in Christ. The Rev. Derwin Norwood will officiate. Burial will follow in Enid cemetery under direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
Gladys was born November 25, 1947, in Enid to Henry and Ella Mae (Bables) Manning and died Friday, June 23, 2013, in her home in Henderson, Nevada.
She attended local schools and graduated from Enid High School with the class of 1965.
On May 21, 1970, she married Bruce Newton.
Gladys started work for Union Pacific Resources, formerly Champlin Petroleum Co. of Enid, in 1969 and retired in 1999 after 30 years of service. Gladys moved to Henderson, Nevada. Shortly after retirement she returned to work for Express Scripts (formerly MEDCO) and continued working until her passing.
Gladys was a member of Church of South Las Vegas. Gladys loved her church family and a host of friends.
She is survived by her two daughters, Leah Bonner and husband Mike and Kallie Wright and husband Roy, both of Fort Worth, Texas; six grandchildren, Tiffani Wade, Pleas (McKenzie) Wade Jr., Chans Newton, Chandrix Simmons, KaLeah Nolley and L. Mykah Bonner; six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Bonnie Thomas and husband Fred of Flint, Michigan, Olive Jackson and husband Garland of Henderson, Nevada, Margaret Little of Purcell, Oklahoma, and Mari Neal and husband Charles, of Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers, James Lawrence and wife Therisa, of El Dorado, Kansas, and John Manning and wife Thelma, of Dallas, Texas. Gladys also is survived by two aunts, Mary Lindsay and husband Carl of Bakersfield, California, and Gloria Bables of Wichita, Kansas; one uncle, Walter Bables and wife Alberta of Englewood, California, and one great-uncle Earl Wiley of Wichita, Kansas. She had a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and other relatives who will mourn her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her oldest daughter, Robyn Johnette; and her parents, Henry and Ella Manning.
The family dinner will follow the funeral at Progressively Baptist Church, 1030 N. 12th, Enid, Oklahoma.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the charity of the donor?s choosing.
