Funeral services for Wade R. Merritt, 71, 1407 E. Maple, who died early Saturday morning following a short illness, will be at 2 PM Monday in the Calvary Baptist Church. Rev. Laddie R. Adams will officiate and burial will follow in the Enid Cemetery under the direction of the Henninger – Allen Funeral Home.

A native of Luella, Texas, Merritt moved with his parents to Gage and later to Enid in the 1920s. Merritt, a former employee of the Rainey – Davis Mercantile Company and the Lee – Way Motor Freight Company, was maintenance engineer for Calvary Baptist Church and later for St. Luke's Methodist Church.

Merritt was a veteran of World War I. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and the American Legion. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Survivors include his widow Etta of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Lova) Brittain, Wichita, Kansas, a step – daughter, Mrs. Tom (Inez) Lockett, Amarillo, Texas, a son, Wayne Merritt, Ardmore; seven grandchildren; two step – grandchildren; two step – great – grandchildren; a brother, Noble Merritt, Ardmore; a half brother, Ralph Merritt, Wichita.
