Richard J. "Dick" McConkay, 84, a prominent businessman and professional photographer in Enid for many years, died Tuesday, December 8, 1992 at Tulsa Regional Medical Center. There will be no service. His body was donated to Oklahoma Medical School at his request.
He was born Nov. 13, 1908, and was raised in Enid. During World War l , he carried newspapers for Enid Daily Eagle. After graduating from Enid High School in 1927, he began work for his father in the photography business. Together, they put in 80 years of service in the business. The two served Enid High School for 67 years as photographer, 50 of those years McConkay served himself. He was a bowler for more than 50 years, and was a member of the Noon Lion's Club 61 years. He also was a master mason for 61 years.
Surviving are one nephew, Dr. Richard McConkay of Tulsa; one niece, Betty Joe Mills of Irving, Texas; one sister, Frances Rector of Edmond; and a sister-in-law, Willie McConkay Baker of Enid.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Memorials may be made to Sons and Daughters of the Cherokee Strip Museum in Enid.
