E. A. Maddy, One of Enid's Pioneer Citizens Succumbs on Rock Island Train
E. A. Maddy died in a chair car on a Rock Island passenger train last Thursday just as the train was pulling into Enid about 5 o'clock.
Mr. Maddy asked the conductor to get him a drink of water. The conductor preceded to do this and when he returned to Mr. Maddy's chair he was dead. The body was taken directly to Penniman's Undertaking Parlor when the train stopped. Heart failure was said to be the chief cause of Mr. Maddy's death.
Mr. Maddy's death was a great shock to many here. It was known that he had not been well for some time but serious results had not been anticipated. About 10 days ago he left his work at Isabella, where he was in charge of a branch station of the Enid lumber company and came to his home in Enid because he was ill. Tuesday returned to his work feeling better. Yesterday he decided to come back to Enid as his physical condition was worse, and met death before reaching home.
The deceased was a pioneer citizen of Enid, 55 years of age. He has been associated with lumber interests in this community for many years. At one time he was manager for a North Enid yard, later for four years he was employed in the lumber office of H. D. White in this city and for the past three years has occupied the position at Isabella which he was filling at the time of his death. He has a large number of friends in and around Enid.
The deceased leaves a wife, one son and two daughters. His son, James Maddy, is a married man and lives here. He is employed at Knower's Shoe Store.
The funeral services were held at the residence at the corner of Twelfth and Pine streets, Sunday afternoon at 3:30.
