Memorial service for Michael S. Lay, 63-year-old Enid resident, will be 2-4 p.m. today, March 9, 2011, at The Frisco Bar.
Mike was born June 22, 1947, in Enid to Roy and Mari An (Smith) Lay and died Saturday, March 5, 2011, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. He attended local schools and graduated from John Marshall High School in Oklahoma City. He attended local schools and graduated from John Marshall High School in Oklahoma City. After graduating, Mike joined the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. Tolovana AO64 and the U.S.S. Oklahoma City CLG5.
After his service he pursued a career in the Merchant Marines. He traveled all over the world in his 32-year career until his retirement in 2008. He was a pilot, an avid motorcycle enthusiast, and loved animals. He had begun plans to begin breeding Labs.
He is survived by his son, Jason Bannister and wife of Novato, Calif.; daughter, Susan Lay of Iowa City, Iowa; two grandchildren; one brother, Herb Robinson Jr.; three sisters, Patti Bickerstaff, Lisa Cameron and Lori Grabher; stepmother, Jerry Lay; stepfather, Herbert Robinson Sr.; cousin, Jeann Svarvar; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
