Edward (Ed) Hillery, 71, died early Thursday after being stricken suddenly ill in his home at 721 N. Seventh. His funeral will be at 2 PM Saturday in Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Enid Cemetery, under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Hillery was born November 8, 1907, at Comanche, known then as Indian Territory. He came to Enid in 1920. He and owned and operated the H and H Mattress Company for 40 years before retiring in 1973.
Hillery and Mary Drue Cooper were married in 1931. He was an elder in the Westminster Presbyterian Church for 25 years before becoming a member of the Central United Methodist Church. Hillery was also a member of the Knights of Pythias, the North Central Iris society and a former member of the Enid Exchange Club.
In addition to his wife, Drue, of the home, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Frances) Washburn, Enid; a son, Richard Hillery of Enid; five grandchildren, Mrs. Bill (Cindi) Robinson, Oklahoma City, Jim R. Painter, Enid, Mrs. Jody (Sarilyn) Sanders, Enid, Sean Hillery and Dane Hillery, both of Enid; five great – grandchildren and a cousin, Mr. and Mrs. Theron Webb, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Don; a brother, Don Hillery; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Williams.
The family has suggested that those who wish make contributions to the Heart Fund in Hillery's memory.
