Jack Otis Hedges, 17-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Hedges, residing a quarter mile east of Lacy, died suddenly last Sunday at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Sturgeon, in Hennessey. Death resulted from intracranial tumor while en route to an Enid hospital for treatment.
He leaves to mourn his early departure from this life, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Hedges and sister, Ada Kathryn, of Lacy community; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Sturgeon, of Hennessey, and many other more distant relatives and hosts of friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from first Baptist Church in Hennessey, with Rev. W. N. Whicker, pastor of Eden Baptist Church, officiating. A wealth of flowers and unusually large attendance indicated the esteem of many friends. Interment was made in an Enid Cemetery.
Lacy school was dismissed at noon to permit teachers and pupils to attend the funeral. Twelve of the deceased's former schoolmates, members of the class of '34, six boys and six girls served as pallbearers and flower girls: Cordell Rowin, Clifford Stambaugh, Mike Sturgeon, George Bailey, Homer Mauck, Marvin Hussey, Esther Strickland, Doris Sturgeon, Aline Fuller, Ione Southerd, Anna Stotts and Clara Mae LaPorte.
Those from out of the community in attendance at the funeral included Superintendent and Mrs. Prentiss Jordan, now of Big Four school, and numerous former Lacy students attending various colleges.
The body was cared for pending the funeral by Cordry & Young, Hennessey morticians.
