The Rev. O. Fred Hanna, 81, 429 S. Johnson, died early Friday following a period of ill health. His service will be Sunday at 2 PM in Henninger – Allen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stanley Jenkins and Doctor H. James Reimer officiating. Burial will be in the Enid Cemetery.
Rev. Hanna was born December 10, 1896, in Ryan. He married Gladys Howard June 24, 1925, in Dallas, Texas. He was educated in the Enid schools, and attended Southern Methodist University and Phillips University. For a number of years he was a singing evangelist, and with his wife, a pianist, conducted meetings in Oklahoma and several northern and eastern states. He was also engaged in Ministry of Stewardship in several states. In 1933, he became pastor of Preston Road Christian Church in Dallas, Texas.
In May of 1938, he was called to the Washington Avenue Church of Christ of Enid where he pastored for 25 years. After retiring in 1961, he traveled extensively for the Bible Meditation League, a Christian literature organization. He also did supply preaching for several area churches. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist church, and a veteran of World War I, having served in France.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys; one daughter, Mrs. H. L. Sullivan, Dallas, Texas; one brother, W. Earl Hanna, Enid; two grandchildren; one niece.
