Funeral service for Robert H. "Bob" Galusha, 75, of Enid, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Pilgrim officiating. Burial will follow in Enid Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Honors will be provided by Enid Police Department Honor Guard. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Vance Air Force Base, Silver Talon Honor Guard. Bob was born March 21, 1934, near Coyle, Okla., to Claude H. and Virginia (Wheeler) Galusha and died Friday, Jan. 29, 2010.
He graduated from Enid High School in 1952 and attended Northwestern Okla-homa State University. He enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served for four years. Upon his discharge from the Air Force, he worked as a detail man for Bristol-Myers drug company. He later worked at Carpet City and Day Ford Co. Bob joined the Enid Police Department in November 1967, where he worked in the uniform, traffic and detective divisions.
Bob married Stephanie Berry May 31, 1969, in Enid, where they made their home. To this union, a daughter, Traci Lynn, was born. Beginning in 1988, together with Chief George Stover, he was instrumental in putting together a museum at the police department, containing memorabilia from the department's history. Upon the death of his father-in-law in 1989, he retired from the department with the rank of captain and took over the family's Hertz Rent-A-Car business. Bob retired from Hertz in 1996.
Bob is survived by his wife, Stephanie, of the home; four daughers, Traci Schaefer and fiance Bill Garten of Medicine Lodge, Kan., Valerie and husband Keith Smith of Overland Park, Fla., Deirdre and husband Bob Wanberg of Greenacres, Fla., and Andrea and husband Barry Heavican of Mission Viejo, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, Johnathon Parker of Panama City, Fla., Kaleigh, Sydney and Ryan Schaefer of Medicine Lodge, Kan., Sean McCoy of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Erica Wanberg of San Diego, Calif., Amy Wanberg of Boca Raton, Fla., Ryan, Kendal and Cameron Heavican of Mission Viejo, Calif.; two sisters, Gaye and husband Joe Atchley of Hot Springs, Ark., and Claudia and husband Tom Schmitt of Mt. Ida, Ark.; one brother, Bill Galusha of Enid; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Chelsea Schaefer and Geoff McCoy.
