James T. DOUTHITT

Enid Cemetery

From a story April 25, 1904 , Page 3 also in the Enid Morning News, we found out he was shot by his wife.
She had shot him in the shoulder four years before but he recovered from that one.
Jealousy or Insanity Given as the cause. Mr. Douthitt can not live. He refuses to talk.

Has Passed Away.

This morning at an early hour death claimed all that was mortal of J.T. Douthitt, one of the first and best known early residents of Enid. Some months ago, Mr. Douthitt received a gunshot wound from which he never fully recovered and, which was a remote, if not the direct cause of his demise.

The deceased came to Enid at the "opening" September 16, 1893 and has resided constantly upon the quarter section he homesteaded then, and which became an Addition to the city of Enid.

He had a large coterie of friends who regret his death, and his wife and four children survive him and mourn his loss.

It has not been decided as to the funeral arrangements, except that the services will be held at two o'clock tomorrow , Friday, at his late residence.
