— Memorial service for Michael "Mike" Conner will be 3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at Alva High School Auditorium. The Rev. Judye Pistole will officiate. A private burial will be in Enid Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva. Michael Lyn, son of Betty Louise (Gash) and Gerald Dwain Conner was born April 2, 1955, in Perry, Okla. He passed away in Alva, Okla., on Wednesday, the 5th of October at the age of 56 years, 4 months and 2 days.

He attended school in Spearman and Odessa, Texas, and graduated from the Garber, Okla. High School with the Class of 1973. Mike received his B.A. degree in music education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in 1977. On June 11, 1977, he married Jewel Eileen Pickett in Rose Hill, Kan. To their marriage three sons, Byron Dwain, Curtis Edward and Steven Charles were born. Following their marriage they lived in Hope, Kan., where he began his career as a band instructor. They lived in Wakita, Cherokee, Kingfisher and Newkirk before coming to Alva in 1999

Mr. Conner was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather. Mike's survived by his wife, Jewel; three sons, Byron and Curtis, both of Buffalo, and Steven of Woodward; a sister and her husband, Pamela Kay and Steve Funk of Tulsa; two brothers, Lewis Robert and wife Cindy of Garber and Ronald Dwain of San Angelo, Texas; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Contributions may be made in his memory to NWOSU Music Department.
