BURIAL FRIDAY FOR VETERAN OF CIVIL WAR DAYS

Derby Callahan, 92, typical Pioneer of Old West

The many origanizations with which he was connected with during his colorful life will sit in bodies at the funeral of Derby Callahan, 92, veteran of the Civil War and Noble Co. pioneer resident. Friday afternoon in the Henninger Chapel at 1 o'clock. The Rev. Thomas P. Haskins of the First Baptist Church will officate and burial will be in the Enid Cemetery at the side of his wife who died in 1925.

Sitting in bodies will be the Womans Relief corps, members of the IOOF lodge, the Rebekah lodge and the VFW. At the close of the service by Rev. Haskins the Womans Relief corps will conduct the rites. The VFW of Enid and Garber posts will conduct a service at the cemetery.

Mr. Callahan enlisted for service with the twelfth Kansas Infantry during the Civil War and was mustered out in Arkansas at the close of the war. He went from Missouri to Western Kansas with a ox team and coming to Oklahoma , settled first in Logan Co. in 1882. He made the run and located at Marshall when the Cherokee Strip was opened.

Mr. Callahan died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. W. Parrick at Longton, Kan. with whom he made his home since leaving Enid four years ago. He moved to Enid in 1917 and had made this his home until his departure to Kansas.

He was the father of 12 children, three sons and one daughter preceded him in death. He is survived by 8 daughters. The are, Mrs. Lizzie Cronister of Booker, Tex.; Mrs. Mary Wilson of Lincoln, Ark.; Mrs. Lucy Shawver of Garber, Dora Parrack of Longton, Kan.; Mrs. Julie Parrack of Garber; Mrs. Malisa Bell and Mrs. Ople Kersen of Enid. He also leaves 31 grandchildren, 24 gr. grandchildren and 2 gr. gr. grandchildren.
