ENID, Okla. — Funeral service for Ira “Dwight” Buckles, 79, of Enid, Okla., will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at Ladusau-Evans Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Edmison officiating. Burial will follow in Enid Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7 p.m. today, Feb. 18, at the funeral home.

Dwight was born Oct. 13, 1934, in Oakwood, Okla., to Ira Buckles and Glennace Chain and passed away late Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014.

Dwight grew up in the Oakwood community, later moving to Billings, Okla., where he graduated from high school. He attended Northern Oklahoma University in Tonkawa and Phillips University.

Dwight married Barbara Kapka in 1958.

Dwight served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1961.

Dwight moved to Enid in 1961. He owned and operated Hockaday’s Appliance from 1972 to 1991. Dwight worked at Andrew Real Estate and Lowe’s until his retirement in 2010.

Dwight was a lifetime member of Enid AMBUCS, where he served as national president from 1982-83. Dwight served on the Enid Police Commission Board.

He is survived by his daughter, Beverly Thoes and husband Dewey of Dallas, Texas; son, Bob Buckles of Dallas, Texas; beloved grandchildren, Erin, Emily, Cooper, Logan and Garrett; brother, Jerry Buckles of Perry, Okla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janice Manley Cowan; and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Emick Buckles.

Memorials may be made to Enid Noon AMBUCS, with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
