Hillsdale Teen Killed in Accident
Staff and Wire Reports
A 16 – year – old Hillsdale girl was killed Wednesday when the car she was driving went out of control on a Garfield County road and struck a concrete abutment, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.
She was identified as Joyce Lynn Brown.
The patrol said Shane D. Phillips, 15, also of Hillsdale, was admitted to St. Mary's Hospital in Enid. A spokesperson at St. Mary's said Wednesday night Phillips was in good condition with a laceration to the scalp.
According to the patrol, Brown was westbound at 3:50 PM on the Hillsdale blacktop approximately 6 miles from U. S. 81 when her vehicle, a 1979 Honda, ran off into the south ditch. The vehicle traveled 123 feet down the ditch, came back onto the road out of control and traveled 186 feet before entering the south ditch again. It then slid 58 feet and hit the abutment on the driver side.
Both passengers were ejected and Brown was pronounced dead at the scene from massive internal injuries by a county medical examiner and LIFE EMS officials.
