John William Brakhage

John William Brakhage, 83, 380 E. Cherry, died Tuesday in a local hospital. His funeral will be at 2 PM Friday in the Chapel of the Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth E. Wade officiating. He will be buried in the Enid Cemetery.

Brakhage was born near Murdock, Nebraska, and came with his family to a farm near Ames shortly after the opening of the Cherokee Strip. He spent the rest of his life in the Enid area except for a time at Okeene and Cleo Springs.

Brakhage was a retired farmer and a veteran of World War I. He and Mabel Henneman were married in Enid in 1936 and she survives.

Other survivors include a son, Lester Dean Brakhage of Monroe, Georgia; two daughters, Mrs. Retha Ann Digman, Enid and Mrs. Oscar (Verda Mae) Stubbs of Laurinburg, North Carolina; four sisters, Mrs. Rosie Webb and Mrs. Clara Lindell, both of Enid, Mrs. S. A. (Mary) Longhofer, Cleo Springs and Mrs. Leslie (Katie) Unruh of Wichita, Kansas; 11 grandchildren and two great – grandchildren. Three sisters and three brothers died earlier.

Those who wish may make contributions in brackets his memory to the Heart Division of the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.
