A Memorial and burial service for Jo May Bowsher, 96, of Great Bend, Kansas, will be 2 PM Monday in Enid Cemetery. The Rev. West Byrd will officiate. Arrangements are by Charter Funerals, Great Bend, Kansas.

She was born September 13, 1909, in Ardmore to Alfred C. and Olive M. Brown Burwell and died Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend.

She married Forest "Smitty" Wendell Smith in 1942. He died July 5, 1963. She later married Don Bowsher Sr. July 21, 1972. He died October 30, 1983.

She graduated from Phillips University with a masters degree in education. She taught over 42 years, teaching in Enid from 1928 to 1947; Liberal, Kansas, from 1947 to 1951; and Great Bend from 1951 to 1972.

She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ of Great Bend, Retired Teachers Association, National Teachers, Afternoon Circle Portia Club, past member of Delta Kappa Gamma and American Association of University Women.

Surviving are one stepson, Don Bowsher Jr. of Great Bend, and two step daughters, Betty Yetschke of Great Bend, and Vickie Cole of Hays, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and one stepdaughter.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to American Cancer Society.
