Funeral services for James Lindsey Atkins, 63, Enid, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at the Enid Maine Church of The Nazarene with Reverends Jerald Bushman and Thomas Pullin officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Enid Cemetery under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service.

James Lindsey Atkins was born on June 9, 1954 in Eatonton, Georgia, to Jesse Frank Atkins, Jr. and Thelma Mae Hawkins Atkins. James grew up on a farm near Monticello, Georgia and helped his father operate a dairy with a heard of about 60 milk cows. Circumstances became such that his father sold the herd, and built three large commercial type chicken houses. James said they had as many as 43,400 baby chicks to care for. After James graduated from high school, he completed two years of college, then got into carpentry and home building, which he continued to do intermittently. He also drove two large trucks in cross-country hauling for three years. He professed faith in Christ in 2009, and was a good follower of Jesus Christ. In spite of all his suffering, he attended church services faithfully as long as he was able to do so. His church family called him “Smiley” because he always seemed to have a smile on his face.

James was preceded in passingby his father and mother, a brother, Jesse Frank Atkins, III.

He is survived by his son, Christopher Michael Atkins, and a daughter, Shawna Marie Atkins, both which reside in Texas; a sister, Phyllis Jones of Georgia, and a brother, David Atkins of Arkansas, and other relatives and friends.

Memorials checks may be made payable to Enid Maine Church of The Nazarene with Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service serving as custodian of the fund.
