Mrs. Myrtle I. Arford, 98, 612 W. Randolph, died early Wednesday, following a period of ill health. Her funeral will be at 2 PM Friday in the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Enid Cemetery.
Mrs. Arford was born October 25, 1886, at Sterling, Kansas, the daughter of Ella and Orwell McMahan. The family came to Oklahoma by wagon train in 1894, settling 3 miles south and 3 west of Enid. She had lived in the Enid area since that time.
She joined the First United Brethren Church when it was organized by Dr. Heisel in 1902 and had been a member of this church (now the Central United Methodist Church) since that time. She was active in various organizations of the church until four years ago, when failing health forced her to give up these activities.
Mrs. Arford was a member of the Dons and Daughters of the Cherokee Strip Pioneers. During World War I I she was active in the Navy Mothers, being a Four Star Mother.
She and John O. Arford were married October 24, 1906. He preceded her in death in March 1947. She was also predeceased by five sisters, a brother, a grandson and a daughter – in – law.
Survivors are four sons and two daughters, Emory Arford of Vista, California, Charles Arford of Bartlesville, Jack Arford of Aurora, Colorado, Oscar Arford of Bellingham, Washington, Thelma Arford of Enid, and Mrs. George (Imogene) Thorne of Alloway, New Jersey; a foster son, Boyd Todd of El Paso, Texas; a sister, Lucille Pendleton of Shawnee; seven grandchildren and 11 great – grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or to the Central United Methodists Church. The funeral home will serve as custodian of the contributions.
The casket will be open until service time.
