Funeral services for Walter Anderson, 97, 1007 Sunnybrook, will be conducted 10 AM Tuesday in the Henninger – Allen Chapel with the Rev. Clarence Glaze officiating. Burial will follow in the Enid Cemetery under the direction of Henninger – Allen Funeral Home.
Mr. Anderson died late Thursday night at his home following a brief illness. He was born in a covered wagon at Arkansas City, Kansas on April 12, 1892. He made the "Run" with his parents settling on a farm southeast of Enid, making him one of the last of the pioneers to participate in the run into the Cherokee Strip. He attended a rural school and later added the U. S. Army serving during WW I. After his discharge he returned to Oklahoma and farmed.
He married the former Elizabeth Frederick on December 2, 1936 in Missouri and they established their home on the farm, living there until moving into Enid in 1969.
He was a member of the Hite Boulevard Free Methodist Church. Mr. Anderson was able to spend his life in his own home until the time of his death, which was his desire. He enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing, having traveled through Canada and Mexico. He celebrated his 97th birthday in California and was a guest on the taping of the "Price Is Right" show. He was always thankful for his friends and everything in his life.
Survived by several nieces and nephews including: Twila Hoffman, Atascadero, California; Belvadene white, Paso Robles, California; Marvin Hoffman, Oakland, California; Marvel Randolph, Colorado Springs; Lawrence Anderson, Edmond, Oklahoma; Ralph Anderson, Fort Worth, Texas; Welma Zyzak, Midwest City, Oklahoma; Dorothy Story, Shalimar, Florida; Barbara Sitebiller, Enid; Lloyd Anderson, Enid; Gloria Cook, Orlando, Oklahoma; Ralph Johnson, Perry, Oklahoma; Wayne Johnson, Stillwater, Oklahoma; Henry Eugene Frederick, Crestview, Florida; Dick Frederick, Raymond, Washington; Jack Andrews, Guthrie, Oklahoma; Gary Frederick Ellensburg, Washington; Gerald Johnson, Casper, Wyoming; Marlene Andrews, Champaign, Illinois; JoAnn LeGrande, Amarillo, Texas; special friend – Retha Digman and family.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1973 and two brothers and two sisters.
