Marjory Grace (Goldsberry) Scoggin

Funeral services for Marjory Grace Goldsberry Scoggin will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, February 27, 2024 in the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Jim Edmison will officiate, with burial following immediately in the Enid Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.
Marjory was born on October 15,1925, to Frederic and Edna (Goodman) Goldsberry on the family farm during a snowstorm near Lenora, Kansas. She had five brothers and one sister and is the last survivor. When Marjory was six, the family moved from Kansas to Covington, Oklahoma where her dad had a mercantile store. When the depression hit, the family was forced to trade their Covington home and two farms in Kansas for an 80 acre farm near Hayward. Marjory hated giving up the modern conveniences of electricity, running water and indoor plumbing. She attended Hayward School and in1943 graduated Valedictorian of her class.
Marjory was tired of being "poor" so she went to work immediately after high school at the Boeing Defense Factory in Wichita, Kansas, as a riveter and drill press operator. She also worked civil service at Enid Army Air Base (Vance), attended Enid Business College and was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. After several other jobs, Marjory finally settled in Enid as a secretary to a local insurance agency. She went home to the family farm every weekend to take care of her elderly parents. One weekend the roads to Covington, Hayward, and Lucien were too bad to travel so Marjory stayed in Enid, went to the Youngblood Hotel, and met the love of her life on the dance floor. Six weeks later on July 23, 1947, Marjory married Henry "B" Scoggin in the Hayward United Brethren Church. The Reverend Eugene Kay officiated the double ring ceremony. They had two daughters, Linda and Ranae. B worked as the manager for Davidson & Case Lumber Company in different towns in Oklahoma and when the company sold in 1970, they moved from Cordell, Oklahoma, back to Enid. They built their home 53 years ago in The Meadows and Marjory was able to continue to live there until her death.
Marjory was extremely strong willed and opinionated - one of her favorite sayings was "right's right and wrong's wrong and I'm right and if you don't believe me just ask me; other "isms" were What's on tap for today; Am I holding us up , I don't want to; Can I help?; Can I buy you a refreshment?; What are we looking at for today?; Who are you talking to?; You can take me home at your convenience; and if there wasn't an out of town trip planned or even an outing to Wal Mart, she would let you know "that doesn't sound very exciting." If you said GO, she was the first one in the car!
She loved her family, being a homemaker, fixing family dinners, and celebrating birthdays with her famous Chocolate Angel Food Cake with whipped cream icing. Her favorite foods became Braum's cheeseburger and french fries, ice cream, cake, popcorn shrimp and KFC chicken legs and mashed potatoes. Marjory was so proud of her family, especially her four grandkids - Ty as her artist, Kevin is Senior Sales at CoreLogic, Kyle a cardiologist for Mid America Heart Institute and Katy, finishing her Chief Residency in Internal Medicine at Regions Hospital, St. Paul, MN and continuing with a fellowship in cardiology at University of Colorado/Denver, her daughters-in law Melanie, Grants Manager at Rainbow Fleet, and Brittany, a CRNA for St Lukes Hospital, Kansas City. She was always ready to tell you a story about each one of them. Even though she had no great-grand kids, Marjory also had four grand pupdogs that were always a welcomed distraction when they came to visit - Marzipan and Roux, Roar-EE, and Rocky. Even with her failing eye sight, she could follow their movement around the room, loved petting them, but drew the line at their wet, sloppy kisses!
When Marjory married B, she knew nothing about sports. B had been an outstanding athlete in high school so she learned to love football, basketball, baseball, and tennis. Of course, she actually enjoyed watching the people and visiting with other spectators in the stands more than the game being played. You could see Marjory at Ty's football and basketball games and track meets, Kevin' basketball games and tennis matches, and Kyle and Katy's tennis matches both in Enid and in Kansas City. Marjory and B would go to Linda and Ranae's softball games, get in the car and race across town to watch the girls play tennis. They also sat through some "painful" band and orchestra concerts of Ranae's but were always there to support their family. Marjory never knew a stranger and was known as "Grandma B', not to just the grandkids but to their friends as well.
Several years ago she was diagnosed with Dementia and these past few years have taken its toll on her, especially these last few months. Three years ago, Linda and Ranae became her full-time care givers. Even though Marjory needed 24-hour care, she was still mobile and "lived" for car trips. Places the girls took her were Denver, Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak, Chicago, Milwaukee, Branson, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Crested Butte, Dallas, many trips to Oklahoma City and Kansas City for extended visits. In Enid, Marjory went to the traveling Price Is Right, The Darcy Lynn Ventriloquist Show, The Beach Boys in 2019 and again just recently The Beach Boys Concert in 2023. As sick as she was, two days before she passed, Marjory told Linda she was ready to go to Kansas City to have some fun!!! But as much as she will be missed, Marjory has finally found peace and certainly has found her way home, reunited with B and the rest of her family and friends.
Survivors include her daughters Linda (Stephen) Sommers, Enid, Ranae (Jerry) Lehenbauer, Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren Ty Sommers (Genevieve Hays) Stillwater, Kevin (Melanie) Sommers, Oklahoma City, Kyle (Brittany) Lehenbauer, Kansas City, Missouri, and Katy Lehenbauer, St. Paul Minnesota, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Marjory is preceded in death by her husband B, parents, siblings Merl, Carl, Lloyd, Claire, Robert, Dwaine, and very special nephew "Lil" Ron Herford.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice Circle of Love or the First United Methodist Church of Enid, with Ladusau-Evans serving as custodian of the funds.
