SETTLED IN ENID ON DAY OF OPENING - LIVED HERE EVER SINCE
Dr H. B McKenzie, A pioneer physician of Enid, died of pneumonia at his home, 732 East Main, Tuesday evening at 6:20, after only a week's illness. Dr. McKenzie was born October 24, 1852, in Fayetteville, Tenn., and was married May 19, 1876, to Miss Ellie Holt, at Lynchburg, Tenn., who survives him.
Besides the widow, there are four children, Mrs. J. B. Batterton, Dr. Walten H. McKenzie, Hugh McKenzie and Mrs. L. V. Tagge, all of Enid except Hugh. who lives in Fort Worth Texas, who is here now, having been called on account of his father's illness.
Dr. McKenzie made the run into Enid on the day of the opening of the Cherokee Strip, September 16, 1893 and has resided here and practiced his profession from that time until his death. He was called to his first case in Enid requiring a physician's attendance, which was on the day of the opening, the patient having been carried into the land office after having an accident.
Many honors have been conferred on Dr. McKenzie, all unsought. He was at one time president of the Central Oklahoma Medical Society, has served at different times as county and city physician, and at the time of his death was president for the second time of the Garfield County Medical Association. The doctor had been in active practice for about 45 years.
Dr McKenzie was very popular among the men of his profession. He was a Mason and belonged also to several other organizations. The funeral will be held at the Baptist church of which he was a charter member, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge.
