Amarillo, Texas – The funeral for Lila Pownell Atterbery, 85, will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday in the Douglas Christian Union Church at Douglas. The Rev. Coy Donakey will officiate. Burial will be in Douglas Cemetery under direction of Henninger – Allen Funeral Home, Enid.
She was born November 29, 1907, at Douglas to pioneer settlers, John and Mae Hoffman, and was the youngest of five boys and three girls. In 1928, she married Hugh Pownell. He died in 1957.
She and Tommy Atterbery were married in 1973. He died in 1979. She continued as a homemaker in Enid until 1988 when she moved to Amarillo. She was a member of Douglas Christian Union Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Carole Quattlebaum of Belfair, Washington; three sons, Dale Pownell of Amarillo, Galyn Pownell of Houston, Texas, and Phillip Pownell of Snyder, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great – grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters and one grandson.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the American Heart Association or to the church.
