Funeral service for Patsy Jean (Allen) Powers will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2013, at Covington Methodist Church. The Rev. Tommy Donaldson and Rev. Ruth Atterberry will officiate. Burial will follow in Douglas Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. Patsy was born May 6, 1928, in Douglas, Okla., to John and Gertrude Marion (Kramer) Gilbert and died Monday, June 3, 2013, at her home near Douglas. She attended McPherson schools in McPherson, Kan., and graduated from McPherson High School in 1946. On June 8, 1947, she married Edward George Allen in McPherson.
The couple moved to Junction City, Kan., where she worked as a clerk in a Rock’n’ Roll record store. In 1963, she, Edward, and their two sons moved to Douglas to farm and ranch. He preceded her in death in 1987. On March 7, 1998, she married Richard Lee Powers at Covington Methodist Church, where they were both longtime members.
She was a past chairwoman for the Garfield County Election Board and a volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital for over 25 years. She and Dick liked to go dancing at the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed baking and was known for her fried chicken, and the best chocolate chip cookies. But she mostly loved spending time with her grandchildren, Lindsey and Emily.
She is survived by her husband, Dick of the home; her son, Douglas Allen and wife Kathy of Edmond; two grandchildren, Lindsey M. Allen of Oklahoma City, and Emily C. Allen of Norman; two stepchildren, Barbara Lee Sibit and husband Terry of Enid, and Cindie Clover and husband Jack, also of Enid. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Ted; and her son, John Michael Allen.
