Duane was born Oct. 10, 1922, on a farm one-half mile west of Del Norte Cemetery to Edward C. and Mabel N. Traylor and died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at Greenbrier Nursing Home.
His paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles N. Traylor, had settled on that farm several years after the Cherokee Strip Land Run. The maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry M. Liebhart, came to Oklahoma in 1893 in the land run.
Elementary education was in one room county schools at Del Norte and Wildwood. After graduating from Drummond High School in 1939, Duane attended the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1943, with a degree in business administration. He then had a three and a half years of service with the U.S. Army.
In 1947, he was employed by the Pillsbury Company in Enid, Okla., as plant accountant and control manager until the plant closed in early 1969. Opting not to transfer to another Pillsbury location, he was employed by Enid Board of Education in November 1969 as the business manager-clerk of the board until his retirement July 1, 1985. Duane also farmed several years. He endeavored to be a good steward of the land. He began the preparation of income tax returns in January 1947 and continued for over 60 years. He had numerous clients and treasured their friendship very much.
He was a charter member of Willow Road Christian Church for 35 and one-half years. At the time of his death, he was a member of Central Christian Church. He married Olive Louise Maphet March 25, 1949.
She survives him with three daughters and their families; Donna and husband Paul Kaminsky and their daughters, Alex and Katie; Norma and husband Robert Duane and their sons, Paul, Michael, Andrew and Luke; and daughter Nancy and her children Charlie and his wife Marci Ray, Ellen and David. The funeral for Olive Louise Traylor, 92, Enid, is 1 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017, in the Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel.
Pastor Carrell Still will officiate. Burial follows in Del Norte Cemetery.
Olive was born Sept. 19, 1924, to Leonard Arthur and Millie Madeline Maphet in Enid, and died Saturday, March 25, 2017, surrounded by her family.
Olive was a product of Enid Public Schools, attending Garfield Grade School, Longfellow Junior High, then becoming a 1942 graduate of Enid High School.
During her high school years, she was very active in Rainbow Girls, serving as a Worthy Advisor and held the state office of Grand Love.
After high school, she attended Enid Business College. After completing her training at Enid Business College, she started working at the Pillsbury Mills Co. from 1943 to 1947.
She enjoyed serving as a Red Cross nurses aide and a "USO girl" during WW II, in her free time during the days of war.
She then went on to serve as the secretary for Central Christian Church from 1947 to 1949.
It was at that time, a young man who had just started at Pillsbury as the plant accountant "heard about" Olive and persistently called the church to ask her out.
His tenacity paid off with a blind date at the Chit Chat Cafe and Duane Edward Traylor from Drummond, became her husband March 25, 1949. They were blessed with 60 years of marriage.
Olive was a wonderful wife and mother for her family, which included four girls, Deborah Anne, Donna Louise, Norma Sue and Nancy Ellen. Her unconditional love for her husband and her girls, and her unshakeable faith in God, made her a wife and mother who will always be cherished. She was always very proud of her family and was always there for us.
She was a charter member of Willow Road Christian Church for 35 and a half years. In addition to being a vital part of the soprano section in the choir, she put her heart into teaching children's Sunday School, directed Vacation Bible School for many years, served as a deaconess and presided over the Christian Women's Fellowship for several terms.
At the time of her death, she was a member of Central Christian Church. While at Central, she was active in the Sooner Sunday school class and Christian Women's Fellowship, where she had served as president for two terms in addition to being active in her fellowship circle.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, daughter Deborah Anne Traylor, husband Duane E. Traylor, brothers Gerald, John and Ron Maphet, sisters Almeda Shaw and Ethel Jorgenson.
She is survived by three daughters and their families; Donna and husband Paul Kaminsky and their daughters, Alex and Katie; Norma and husband Bob Duane and their sons; Paul and his wife Karanae; Michael and his wife Tracy; and great-grandson Timothy; Andrew and his wife Elizabeth, and Luke; and daughter Nancy and her husband John Burgett and her children Charlie and his wife Marci Ray.
Great-granddaughter Charlotte; Ellen and David Ray; and step-grandchildren John and Melissa Burgett, parents of Gentry, Oliver and Henry Burgett; and Levi and Betsy Burgett, parents of Laila and Archie Burgett.
She is also survived by her sister Wanda Davenport of Concordia, sister-in-law Pat Maphet of Enid, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to "4 Our Kids," with Henniger Hinson Funeral Home acting as custodian, 601 W. Broadway, Enid, OK 73701. (580-233-1700)
