A graveside service for Virginia Alberta Nixon, 91, of Alva, will be 2:30 p.m. today in Del Norte Cemetery, Drum-mond. Pastor Sean Evans, of Alva First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), will officiate. Arrangements are by Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva.
She was born Aug. 22, 1916, in Drummond to Bessie Bracken and Albert Rikli and died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, at Alva Share Medical Center.
She attended Drummond schools and graduated in 1934. She attended Northwestern State College at Alva for several years.
She married Howard Nixon Dec. 19, 1936, in Drummond.
They lived and worked in the Drummond area. Starting in 1954, they owned and operated a grocery store for five years. In 1960, they purchased Vista Motel in Alva and in 1980 retired and she became a homemaker.
She was a member of Alva First Christian Church and Christian Women Fellowship.
Surviving are her husband, Howard; one son, David Nixon, of Tulsa; one sister, Joyce Trostel, of Houston; one brother, Eldon Nixon, of Enid; one granddaughter; and one grandson.
She was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
Memorials made be made to Alva First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

ENID — Graveside service for Howard W. Nixon, of Alva, formerly of Drummond, will be 2 p.m. today, March 16, 2011, in Del Norte Cemetery , Drummond. Howard Wayne, son of Alice (Stewart) and Samuel Nixon, was born Sept. 22, 1916, in Drummond, Okla. He passed away at Alva Share Medical Center on Sunday March, 13, 2011, at the age of 94 years, 5 months and 19 days.
He attended Drummond School System, graduating from high school with the class of 1934 and attended Northwestern State College at Alva.
On Oct. 14, 1942, he joined the United States Army, serving in the European Theater. He was responsible for maintaining and making repairs on all small arms and examining them for worn and unserviceable parts. He was honorably discharged as a master sergeant on Nov. 1, 1945.
Howard was married to Virginia Rikli on Dec. 19, 1936, at the home of Rev. Chester O. Bergert in Drummond. To their marriage a son, David, was born.
Following their marriage they lived and worked in the Drummond area. In 1954, they owned and operated a grocery store for five years. In 1960, they purchased the Vista Motel in Alva and in 1980, retired.
Mr. Nixon was a member of Alva First Christian Church and Alva Golf and Country Club, where he went daily.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, on Feb. 24, 2008, and parents.
Howard is survived by a son and his wife, David and Wanda of Tulsa; a granddaughter, Michelle Nixon of Tulsa; and a grandson and his wife, Howard and Kelli of Broken Arrow; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Joyce and husband Tros Trostel of Houston, Texas, and Emma Lou Rikli of Enid; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Contributions may be made in his memory to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
