YOUNG MAN DROWNS
Louis Hinds, age 23 years, was drowned in a pond on the Cozart farm southwest of Drummond, Thursday afternoon of last week, at about 3 or 4 o'clock. In company with some other young men and his father, the unfortunate young man had gone to the pond for a swim. While trying to swim across the pond, he became exhausted, not being a very good swimmer, and began calling for help. In his struggles, he seized the wrist of Clarence Brown and dragged Brown to the bottom with him. By strenuous efforts Brown broke the grip and escaped. There was some delay in rescuing the body as none in the part could dive. When the rescue was accomplished finally, life was extinct. The water in which he sank was twelve or fifteen feet deep.
The father of young Hinds was unable to swim and could only look on helplessly while he drowned.
The father, Dud Hinds, a sister Emma and a young brother, Ellwood, are left to mourn his untimely death.
Funeral services which were conducted by Rev. J.F. Keith, were held at the farm home three miles west of town last Friday afternoon. Burial was made at Del Norte cemetery. A large crowd attended the services.
